What you’ll do

• Design test scenarios using mind maps, risk analysis and test design techniques. Keep test cases up to date in TestRail.
• Run risk-based exploratory and functional testing on new features, regressions and bug fixes. Report and track defects in Jira until they're closed.
• Join feature walkthroughs with developers to check acceptance criteria before formal testing.
• Create, maintain and extend end-to-end test automation (UI and API level), and help make test runs faster and more stable through parallel execution, retries and clear failure reports.
• Test our GraphQL API directly to cover cases that are hard to reach through the UI, including permissions, edge cases and invalid inputs.
• Set up and manage your own test environments and test data using our CI/CD pipeline and temporary environments.
• Use observability tools, including Grafana logs and dashboards, and the database to investigate issues in asynchronous, event-driven flows.
• Validate multi-tenant and configurable behaviour, including journal preferences, roles and permissions, stage-specific checks, and generated outputs such as HTML screening reports.
• Work with developers on testability and shared ownership of automated tests. Support L2/L3 teams when they investigate production issues.
• Contribute to QA practices across teams through knowledge sharing, documentation, onboarding and improvements to the shared automation framework.

What you need to be successful

• 3–5 years of experience in software testing, combining manual and exploratory testing with test automation.
• Solid understanding of agile testing practices and test design techniques.
• Hands-on experience writing automated tests in JavaScript or TypeScript, using tools such as Cypress, Playwright, or Selenium with Cucumber-JS.
• Experience testing GraphQL and/or REST APIs with Postman or similar tools, plus some scripting.
• Comfort working with Git, CI pipelines and Docker-based environments.
• Basic SQL skills for checking data in relational databases such as PostgreSQL.
• Ability to explain risks and defects clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ownership of your testing process, environments and automation code, with the confidence to question decisions that put quality at risk.
• Curiosity and eagerness to learn new tools, techniques and domains.

Nice to have

• Experience testing distributed, event-driven or microservice-based systems, including queues and asynchronous processing.
• Exposure to AWS, Kubernetes and observability tools such as Grafana and Loki.
• Experience with TestRail integrations or test reporting in CI.
• Contract or API-level end-to-end test automation.
• Experience using AI tools to support test design.
• Interest in academic publishing or research integrity.
