What you’ll do

• For this position, it is extremely important that we find someone with proven Tech Lead experience and strong solution architecture skills. This is not a hands-on implementation assignment. The assignment will run until a permanent candidate is identified and onboarded. The timeline is therefore variable and dependent on the outcome of the recruitment process, but we are actively working to fill the permanent role. An extension is possible if needed.
• The domain includes a custom software landscape built on Kotlin, TypeScript, Vue, and Nuxt, as well as close integration with an internal SAP-based system.
• The interim Tech Lead will be responsible for the overall architecture of this domain, including how the custom and SAP components interact.
• The Tech Lead will work closely with teams that develop and maintain the internal SAP-based system, but they are not expected to implement SAP solutions or have deep SAP expertise.
• Their responsibility is to define how the SAP landscape and the custom software landscape connect, and to coordinate the work of the teams involved.
• The existing WebShop services run on Google Cloud Platform with GKE (Kubernetes), use relational databases (CloudSQL), and rely significantly on synchronous communication. These services remain within the Tech Lead's scope.
• The new and expanded services for the broader customer domain are built serverlessly using Cloud Run and Cloud Run Functions, with Quarkus as the backend framework. Asynchronous communication via Pub/Sub is the preferred integration model for the new architecture.
• The interim Tech Lead must be able to provide direction across both layers.
• Own the end-to-end architecture of the domain and provide technical direction across all teams involved
• Identify and communicate architectural risks, dependencies, and trade-offs
• Lead technical discussions with internal stakeholders and external partners
• Mentor engineers and technical leads within the domain
• The interim Tech Lead is expected to review, challenge, and guide technical decisions rather than write production code day to day.
• The Tech Lead is expected to remain technically credible: they should be able to read and review code, understand implementation trade-offs, and participate meaningfully in technical discussions.

What you need to be successful

• We are looking for a candidate with proven experience as a Tech Lead, Lead Engineer, Principal Engineer, or Software Architect, and a strong track record of owning architecture across multiple teams or domains.
• Hands-on experience with cloud-native and serverless architectures is required, as is the ability to communicate clearly with both engineers and senior stakeholders
• Experience leading or coordinating distributed or cross-functional engineering teams Strong understanding of cloud-native and serverless architectures
• Experience designing and reasoning about both synchronous and asynchronous integration, including REST APIs, event-driven architectures, and messaging systems
• Ability to define and communicate system boundaries, integration patterns, and interface contracts
• Ability to work across organizational and technical boundaries, including with teams using different technology stacks
• Strong communication, facilitation, prioritization, and decision-making skills
• Ability to provide technical leadership without personally implementing every component
• Experience with Kotlin, Quarkus, TypeScript, Vue, or Nuxt
• Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform, including Cloud Run, Cloud Run Functions, Pub/Sub, CloudSQL, or GKE
• Experience integrating custom software with SAP or other enterprise platforms
• Experience in the customer identity, customer accounts, customer data, commerce, or omnichannel domain
• Experience working with external technology providers or system integrators
• Experience mentoring technical leaders in addition to individual engineers
